Nicole’s Five Things

Every so often we’ll post the five things a Sandboxer is currently grooving on. Things that inspire them, make them happy, or just running through their minds. Today’s Five is from Nicole Devereaux.Five

Nicole Devereaux: Five Things I’m Grooving On Right Now

1. Calla Lily photos – these images totally inspired me in my work with Hamline University students on The Oresteia Project: Queens & Daughters. I love how, even though it is a perfectly still image of an inanimate object, it looks like it’s dancing!

2. Book: When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor…And Yourself
This book provides excellent research, asks insightful questions, and poses thoughtful responses to material poverty both domestically and internationally.

3. Blog: Sasha Dichter – http://sashadichter.wordpress.com/
Sasha is the Chief Innovation Officer at Acumen Fund, a nonprofit venture fund that invests in social enterprises, emerging leaders, and breakthrough ideas.  His blog is INSPIRING; he shares stories, thoughts, and encouragement regarding generosity, philanthropy, and social change. As an artist involved in many nonprofit sectors, I find his experience and reflections motivating to KEEP GOING!

4. Cookbook: More With Less
This cookbook is absolutely amazing – written by Mennonites from around the world, it has an endless supply of delicious recipes that use the simplest, most basic ingredients. Also includes recipes for homemade everything (I particularly love the breads!). Useful for anyone who lives on a tight budget or who desires to consume less.

5. The Gospel Accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
In January of 2010, I started reading the Bible in chronological order of events. I’m just now getting to the gospel accounts, and I’ve been re-inspired by what a great storyteller Jesus is. Not only did he regularly speak to people with parables, but he also inspired them to re-imagine their own stories through a bigger perspective.
